Action-packed West Coast Open off to a Huge Start
Highlights from day one of the US Paintball League’s West Coast Open
July 24, 2009 - The level of competition at this weekend’s US Paintball League West Coast Open at SC Village has been through the roof as teams from all over the United States have taken Corona, California by storm.
The Games
In Division 3 5man, it’s a group of California and Miami boys making up the team in the lead, the RNT Kidz. Their lead is far from comfortable however with five teams right behind them boasting three wins and one loss each – and many more games left to be played tomorrow.
Dark Riders, Impact Kids, LA Distraction and Rockstar Wrecking Crew all have 3 wins under their belts after the first day of prelims in Division 3 7man. This could certainly shake up the series points race for Division 3 as three of the four mentioned are new-comers to the race.
Arsenal Predators, Infamy, One18 and SCP Epic have each dropped just 1 game in Division 2 and will continue to battle it out for placement into Sunday’s Quarter Finals throughout Saturday’s games. Arsenal Predators are looking to defend their title from Huntington Beach while SCP Epic has hopes of continuing to improve upon their already 5th ranked position in the series.
In Division 1, Warped Army is clearly leading the pack after finishing the day without dropping a single game. Dynasty Entourage, Rockstar Factory, Hollywood HK, Factory Black and Arsenal Evolution are all sitting neck and neck with two wins, two losses and four games left to be played Saturday morning. The Outfit still has a chance to turn everything around tomorrow morning with half of their games left to be played.
In the Professional division, 8 of the teams played all of their prelims today with the other 8 teams watching closely from the stands as they prepare to take to the field tomorrow. Indianapolis Mutiny was the dark horse in today’s match ups. Finishing 15th in Huntington Beach, Mutiny’s upset over Edmonton Impact today secured their spot into Sunday’s Pro Quarter-finals and knocked Impact out of the event. Oakland Blast, San Diego Dynasty and the OC Bushwackers will be joining Mutiny Sunday morning along with the top 4 teams from tomorrow’s second round of Professional Prelims.
